Finally! A tabletop that’s as easy to care for as it is beautiful…
Most of us can probably agree that when it comes to your home furnishings, the less upkeep required, the better. Luckily for you, we’re always on the lookout for great, high quality design that works for everyday life. And when it comes to dining tables, ceramic tabletops are at the top of that list. Thanks to modern engineering, ceramic tabletops give you the best of both worlds, offering the beauty of a marble top, without the high maintenance.
Below, we’ve put together a quick and easy “cheat sheet” of the do’s and don’t’s of cleaning ceramic tabletops. Read on to find out just how simple it is and be sure to scroll through to the very end to shop a few of our favorite ceramic dining tables.
Good news! Less is best when it comes to cleaning ceramic tabletops, which means more time enjoying meals with family and friends and less time worrying about the clean-up later. Just wipe the surface with a damp cloth or sponge and a mild detergent, like the soap you’d normally use in the kitchen. Yes, it’s that simple!
You mean I don’t need to scrub it down or polish it daily? That’s right! Ceramic is extremely durable, making it less prone to scratches and stains than a natural stone, like marble.
Don’t fret, using a limestone cleaning gel isn’t something you’d need to do on a daily basis in order to keep your ceramic tabletop looking fresh and clean, but it is safe to use every now and then for an extra shiny surface.
Forget the tablecloth or place mats, ceramic doesn’t require very much protection. As we mentioned earlier, these tabletops are highly resistant to scratches and stains, granting you the peace of mind you need when the kids get messy or drag dishes and cups across the table. In the event that there is a big spill, remove fresh stains as soon as possible with a solution mixed from bicarbonate soda and water. Simply wipe off with a wet sponge.

Had a question as to whether the upkeep of matte vs glossy differs in the ceramic tables. Please let us know
Hi there! The upkeep of the matte and glossy ceramic tops do not differ. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
would rain water leave a stain on outside ceramic table
Hi Judy! It depends where you got the ceramic tabletop from. Ceramic is extremely durable though and the ceramic tabletops we sell are completely finished. That said, there is a high chance that over time rainwater could certainly affect the ceramic top’s finish either with staining or etching and outdoors would probably require more regular maintenance unless you want a more natural, weathered look. Staining, by the way, is not so much a result of the water as it is the stuff that the water picks up in the atmosphere as it makes its way down (to us)–so your area’s air quality makes a big difference as well. Hope this helps!
Yesterday we got a new ceramic table for our covered patio area. What is the best product we can get for sealing the surface to minimize staining? Thx…..M
Hi Mike! Did you get your ceramic table from Cantoni? If yes, then no need to seal the surface as all of our ceramic tabletops are already completely finished. Hope you are enjoying your new table and having a terrific summer! Any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Take care!
Are there different qualities of ceramic tops? Are crystal ceramic and ceramic table tops different?
What’s the difference between granite top and ceramic one?
Which one do u prefer? And is there a difference in price ?
Thank you !
Granite is a natural stone whereas ceramic is a man-made product. Granite is a very luxurious and durable material however it is more porous than ceramic, making it more likely to stain. Generally, granite requires more maintenance than ceramic. As far as the tables we carry, both materials are quality options, it really just depends on your lifestyle and needs. If you’d like more info or guidance, I’d be happy to have one of our design consultants email you. You can also call us toll-free at 877.881.9191 which will connect you to a Cantoni store nearest you. Thank you!
What happens if i chip my table. My husband has dropped a platter on our old table and I am wondering if the table chips, is there anything that can be done?
Not sure what type of material your old tabletop was but the benefit of almost all of our ceramic table tops is that they are extremely durable and made from materials that are resistant to impact, scratches, stains, chemicals, and thermal shock.
Hi, I am looking for advice on my ceramic table. It was delivered from a well known retailer in May 2019. When I would clean it down all these marks would appear on it when it was wet- they look like halved oranges- small segments and all the marks are equal distance apart and the same pattern all over the table, but they would disappear when the table dried. As the months went on the marks were there all the time not just when cleaned down- I contacted the store we bought it off and they said it had to be tea cup stains! Which is definitely not the case- it looks like sucker marks from when the ceramic was lifted in the factory- I got another retailer to attest to this. Then my husband and I went to move the table so I could rearrange seating and the top cracked! The retailer says we are over the year warranty and won’t accept responsibility. Not really sure how to proceed. The table cost almost £2k and we can’t afford to replace. Just wondering like there have been a fault in the table from get go. We’ve only had it a year and now have to throw it out basically.
Without seeing the damage and knowing the manufacturer or process in which the table was made, it is hard for us to do more than guess what the issues could be. When we deliver these type of tables, our delivery professionals make sure that it installed correctly and there are no issues before we leave the customer. Sorry we couldn’t be of more help. You can contact us via our contact page on our website if you’d like to discuss further.
