Ciao! iSaloni 2014 Trends From Milano

Although our Founder and CEO, Michael Wilkov and Senior Buyer, David Boxer were sad to say goodbye to the fantastic weather, delicious Italian cuisine, beautiful people, and of course some of the most interesting and visually innovative furniture that make up the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, we are very excited to share what’s ahead with some very exciting new trends and pieces we can expect to see in our showrooms this Fall! Check out the complete list below for new, inspiring design trends as well as Michael and David’s favorite finds from some of the lines we love and carry here at Cantoni!

Market Trends

Wood:  Although we are still seeing burnt oak pieces from last year’s Salone, this year natural wood finishes in lighter shades have been introduced and can definitely be expected to be seen in our showrooms this fall.

Lighting: Where crystals and shiny metals have been the dominant lighting trend over the past few years, we are now seeing a lighting trend move towards more natural finishes like bronze or burnished bronze, unadorned suspension cords, as well as bulbs with visible filaments. Here’s a sneak peek at some of our favorites, coming soon from Cattelan!

Tall Beds: The renowned European style of super low beds are making way for taller frames and thicker, plusher mattresses, a trend we confidently feel many Americans will welcome and embrace.

GOLD: As we also saw from our buyers at the High Point Market, gold is definitely making a comeback and in a big way! While it will not take over the chrome and stainless steel finishes, “gold is gold”, and will be making a statement from accessories to major case pieces.

Seating: With an emphasis on comfort, the seat is getting a bit softer than in years past. Fortunately new foam technologies have enabled  manufacturers to create sofas and chairs that are sharp and clean without sacrificing comfort.

Favorite finds from the lines we love:

Malerba: Each year our exclusive Italian line, Malerba woos us with their stunning furniture collections. This year’s newest collection, A Fashion Affair features exotic wood veneers that continue to evoke a romantic lifestyle with inspiration and aspiration to a beautiful life or “La Dolce Vita.”

Cattelan: Cattlean-limited edition-shark tableOne of our gorgeous Italian lines, Cattelan introduced 52 new pieces ranging from dining to occasional, to bookcase/shelving and lighting (as seen above). One of our senior buyer and CEO’s favorite piece is this unique and limited edition marble and glass combination Shark Cocktail Table.

Hudson SectionalGamma: This year at the Salone, we had the wonderful opportunity to attend Gamma’s 40th anniversary party celebrating incredibly beautiful and exceptional handcrafted leather furniture. To the right is one of our senior buyer’s favorites called the Hudson Sectional. In his own words, “I love this frame along with the orange pop of color. The juxtaposition of the Italian shoes give it a nice touch as well.”
