Knowing that their kitchen was in need of a remodel, the Mohan family brought our Houston design team into their home to create a light and airy space inspired by its surrounding waterways.
The Mohan family had been on the house hunt for quite some time. When they finally found the home that could be the one, the only design element standing in their way was an outdated kitchen. Having worked with Cantoni over the years, they turned to us for advice and we immediately saw the potential.
The Mohan’s fell in love with the home’s idyllic location on Oyster Creek in Sugarland, Texas and wanted us to design a light and airy space inspired by the waterways around them. To bring their vision to life, the Cantoni Design Team in Houston worked closely with the family to remodel the kitchen and outfit their living room’s interiors.
Starting with the kitchen, we collaborated with the Mohan’s to identify the best layout for their home based on how they envisioned utilizing the space – to cook, eat, entertain and enjoy general family fun. Mr. Mohan wanted to ensure he could enjoy his morning coffee seated at a table instead of a traditional countertop bar. So, we designed an eat-in kitchen to include a custom breakfast table where he could do just that.
We selected a refreshing color scheme of blues, grays and white with orange accents – which was carried from the kitchen into the living room. Combining the Mohan’s minimalist wants with their love of coastal-inspired living, we chose seamless cabinetry in white high gloss lacquer and incorporated geometric deep blue lacquered panels. To create additional layers of visual interest, we applied textural stone to the island’s exterior, intended to mimic the waves from the surrounding waterways. This unique texture was also applied into the living room’s soaring walls for a high drama effect.
To complete the open plan space, we paired sculptural glass cocktail tables and sleek suede sofas with oversized leather armchairs, creating an inviting space for the Mohan’s to enjoy with their guests. To pull these pieces together and distinguish the sitting area, we selected a large-scale rug with beautiful organic shapes and hues of blue, orange and white.
The end result was a truly one-of-a-kind kitchen and entertaining space that’s everything the Mohan’s could have imagined and more.
