How to Clean and Care for Tibetan Wool

There’s a lot to love about Tibetan wool. Whether it’s a plush pillow or a cozy throw, a shag rug or a chic upholstered chair, items boasting sumptuous and soft genuine Tibetan wool can add instant glamour, texture and interest to any space as well as complement a wide range of interior styles. Aside from the fact that it’s super soft and stylish, wool is also hypoallergenic and resists dirt, grease and odors. Though you might assume wool is always warm and gives off heat, it actually adjusts to the climate making it warm in cool conditions and cool in warm conditions. Quite possibly the best advantage of all though is that sheepskin wool is super easy to care for–so easy that we’ve outlined a few basic guidelines to follow below:

Avoid exposure to strong, direct sunlight as UV can damage the natural fibers and fade dyed sheepskins or darker shaded products.
Attend to spills and stains as quickly as possible.
Unshorn, long wool products can benefit greatly from brushing with a wire pet brush (pet slicker pad). Brushing with a wire wool comb helps to restore the fluffy appearance and natural “loft” of the fibers.
Regular vacuuming with a plain suction vacuum cleaner will help to maintain wool fibers as well. Do NOT use turbo or revolving brush vacuum cleaners as they can damage the wool fiber and cause frizz.
