6 Ways to Use an Accent Chair

When it comes to decorating with accent chairs, the design possibilities are endless. In addition to providing extra seating, accent chairs are also a great way to add a new style element, color or pattern to any room. So, what are some actual ways you can begin incorporating these stylish seats into your space, you ask? We turned to the pros, our talented Design Consultants, for some real-life examples and here’s what we found.

1. Solution to an Awkward Corner

Transform an awkward, unused corner into a cozy reading nook by combining a comfortable accent chair with a side table and floor lamp. You can also add a mirror like Cantoni designer Kohl Sudnikovich did in the space pictured above, to help create the illusion of space.

2. In the Entry

If there’s room, a statement accent chair in the entryway makes a great first impression plus provides a comfortable place for guests to take their shoes off and on. An armless occasional chair is a great option for smaller entryways. These types of chairs are not only lightweight–making them easy to move around when the need or “occasion” arises–but can also be found in a plethora of shapes and styles.

3. Perched Next to a Fireplace

Arguably the best seat in the house, an accent chair perched next to the fireplace offers a warm and cozy spot to relax especially during those colder nights. While the wingback style chair is the most commonly spotted seat by the fireplace, (the original purpose of the chair’s side wings was to protect the inhabitant from drafts and heat from a roaring fire) any chair with a medium to high-back will do!

4. In Pairs

While accent chairs function beautifully on their own, they work just as well in pairs too. Opposite a sofa, a pair of accent chairs can instantly transform your living room into a warm and inviting area for conversation.

5. Bedroom Retreat

An accent chair in the bedroom provides a private and comfortable place to decompress after a long, hectic day. It’s especially nice when you’re not quite ready to get into bed but want a relaxing spot to curl up with a book or take a quick snooze.

6. In the Office

Having an accent chair (or two) in your home office provides an inviting place for clients to sit when conducting business or a comfortable spot for family and friends to sit and chat.
