As the invites come pouring in, Cantoni‘s CEO, Michael Wilkov and Senior Buyer, David Boxer gear up for their annual trip to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, which will run from April 8-13.

We can’t wait to see what trends they discover this year! Here’s what Senior Buyer, David Boxer is looking forward to…make sure to check back on our blog as we continue to follow their trip!

DB: “I am eager to see…”

  • Malerba! What will be new from our exclusive line of high gloss wood veneers (a common misconception…to be continued)
  • How last year’s “finish of the fair” (smoked/burnt oak) has evolved and what it is being combined with.
  • If the European trend toward matte finishes continues
  • Rugs and floor coverings: Will they remain of the “flat” variety or will higher textures and piles start to emerge?
  • Gold metal and accents: A strong home fashion trend last year in Milan. Curious to see how it has evolved over the past 12 months…
  • Lastly amongst the delicious food and some of the most beautiful people in the world (that’s a given!) alsoLovage at Ace Hotel London - Photo by Andrew Meredith - Drink names are Viridian - Coral - Ruby excited to check out Lovage‘s (organic elixirs and seasonal juices from the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, east London) pop-up juice station, which will be complete with a bespoke bar designed by architect Carl Turner! With a choice between 3 prescriptive formulas, (restorative, cleansing, calming) I might have to try them all! (A great refresher during all of the fabulous madness that is Milan!)

A word from our CEO, Michael Wilkov:

“I’ve attended every Salone Internazionale del Mobile since 1983, but the exhibition never fails to amaze me. The Milan exhibition consists of temporary showrooms, constructed and dismantled over the course of the event, though you’d never guess it judging by the substance and creative flair of the individual exhibits. My team and I live and breathe our motto, “Great Design is a Way of Life” and are committed to bringing our customers the best in modern design from across the globe. The Salone del Mobile is uplifting in so many ways, not the least of which is the love-of-life optimism that finds expression in great design.”

Fun Fact: The first Salone del Mobile (which means “furniture exhibition,”) in Milan appeared in 1961 as a showcase for Italian designers and manufacturers.  What began as a promotion on Italy has since evolved into the world’s preeminent venue for modern furniture design.
